Finding A Travel Skincare Routine
When it comes to packing everything in a carry on, I tend to get a little flustered when decided what toiletries to take. Liquid limits and limited space can be a big hindrance and makes taking everything my instincts tell me to impossible.
I'm also the kind of girl who cares about my skin... a lot. Going through a major acne phase at a young age makes you a little paranoid about that. Plus, I'm not a fan of my skin feeling gritty and dirty.
Disclaimer: NONE of the products mentioned in this post are sponsored. Seriously. I just love them all a lot.
Maintaining my skincare routine as closely as possible to what I do at home is something that's important to me when I'm away. There are certain products that I only use while traveling since they just make things more convenient. For example, taking a cleansing bar instead of a liquid cleanser prevents spills and is a lot easier to pack.
After a lot of trial and error, these are the skincare products I take on my trips, no matter how long they are.
I usually just transfer some of this into a travel bottle if I decide not to bring my Yes to Tomatoes Activated Charcoal Bar Soap (charcoal actually does wonders for my skin).
It's light, super effective at removing extra oils and grime without making your skin feel dry stripped of everything that makes it skin, and it doesn't have any major smell - something I'm really sensitive to. A little bit goes a long way, so a carry on sized bottle of this will easily last me two weeks.

As you'll see, I'm actually a HUGE fan of Skyn ICELAND products.
Eye Gel Travel Kit
These are a LIFESAVER. My personal favorites are from Skyn ICELAND - again. You can get a travel sized pack of 4 for $15.
Pop on a set after a long haul flight or day of travel and your eyes will thank you. Not only are they cooling and relaxing, but they reduce the appearance of dark circles and bring down puffiness - something I have a problem with. (I used to keep a spoon in the freezer so I could use it to reduce puffiness in the morning!)
There are a lot of great eye masks out there, so try a few out before making a decision, and then always make sure to have a set or two with you!
I wasn't sure about this when I first tried it. It seemed too light to be effective and didn't seem to be enough for my drier skin. Now it's my favorite go-to moisturizer.
It leaves my face feeling fresh and moisturized without being heavy or greasy. But the best part? It gets my skin perfectly prepped for any makeup I'm wearing that day. Often I find that it leaves my skin nice and smooth enough that I feel good going without any makeup.
You'll definitely be seeing this in my Puerto Rico packing list next month!
This is the one product that, hands down, changed my skin care routine. Now I can't go anywhere without it.
It basically retains all the moisture on my skin and plumps everything up a little bit to help make a little healthier. As someone who should probably drink a lot more water than I do, it's a lifesaver for dry, tired skin. Are you sensing a pattern about my type of skin yet?
How to find a skincare regimen that works for you
Everyone's skin is a little different. Just because some things work for me definitely does not mean they will work universally. If you skin is oily, you probably want to avoid most of what I use since I'm all about adding more moisture and essential oils to my skin.
It can be very overwhelming to find your own routine. There are literally hundreds of different products out there, and they're all full of ingredients that (if you're like me ) you can't pronounce and know nothing about.
Thankfully, there are some people who do know what they're talking about. They've put in the time and research to find the best products that will do what you need it to - make you feel clean without stripping away all the essential things your skin needs to stay healthy.
Check out this super awesome, helpful guide to cleansers and skincare. It's full of research that is explained in a language even I can understand.
